We love the saying, ‘It takes a village’. And although it relates to raising children, the belief that an entire community must provide for and interact positively to manage something important and achieve greatness resonates perfectly with the Friends of My Health Story (MHS).
With this positive statement, we welcome Painaustralia as our newest MHS Friend.
Living with a chronic illness can make it challenging to access the right healthcare team and resources. Even harder is addressing the most significant issues affecting the majority of people, such as misdiagnosis and limited access to necessary care and support. For this, we require policy game-changers.
These policy game-changers are usually people working at an organisational level. One such person is Giulia Jones, current CEO of Painaustralia and Shadow Minister for Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing and Shadow Minister for Multicultural Affairs.
MHS Founder Soula Mantalvanos has continued conversations with Giulia since first connecting just a few months ago and, as a result, is now thrilled to have the organisation become a Friend of MHS.
It strongly conveys that Painaustralia shares the MHS mission of tailoring care through better understanding.
‘To make what is invisible visible’ – Giulia Jones, CEO Painaustralia
As we compose this message, Giulia is currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer.
It is a heartbreaking situation, but one that Giulia plans to use to create a positive impact on cancer and chronic pain. She intends to share her recovery story and raise funds for cancer and pain-related causes. MHS helped with this fundraiser and plans to join Painaustralia’s media campaign through this year’s International Pain Awareness Month in September.
The Friends network of MHS is growing, certifying the belief that a deeper understanding of each person’s experience can lead to more effective care and better outcomes.
