(Vimeo: Soula’s lived experience forms part of Dr Paul Grinzi’s Management of Persistent Pain in Primary Care workshop at the Australian CODA Conference 2022).

My Health Story (MHS) founder Soula Mantalvanos was invited to contribute her lived experience to the Management of Persistent Pain in Primary Care workshop created by General Practitioner & Medical Educator Dr Paul Grinzi.

The four-day (IRL) CODA Conference was held at the Melbourne Convention Centre, and healthcare practitioners and clinicians working in various health sectors attended from the US, NZ and Australia.

Participants worked together as Dr Grinzi presented educational resources such as science-based evidence, videos, and examples to clarify the understanding of chronic pain through the four-hour workshop. Everyone shared their experiences, knowledge and ideas.

By the end of the workshop, all attendees had a template that could be used with their patients to assess, treat and manage ongoing pain. Attendees also received this fabulous resource doc, CODA22Pain resources, by Dr Grinzi.

Soula’s contribution was welcome throughout the workshop. The reality of her lived experience and how she manages her ongoing recovery was valuable in learning how to better care for and help those living with ongoing pain.

MHS was a significant part of Soula’s contribution and was presented as a communication aid for both the patient and the healthcare practitioner. Soula highlighted the importance of knowing and understanding the person to better help and empower them through the difficult journey.
