My Health Story founder, Soula Mantalvanos, was recently invited to share her valuable expertise for GP training, once again highlighting the significance of lived experience for chronic pain management education. The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) GP training session, ‘An approach to non-cancer pain,’ was hosted by Dr Paul Grinzi on Wednesday, 15 November 2023, in Melbourne. Soula’s 20-minute presentation included details of her 4.5-year medical odyssey that led to her chronic illness – one she believes could have been completely avoided with educational training sessions such as the one she was presenting at. Soula began her presentation by stating the vision and mission that have driven her advocacy and to becoming the founder of pudendalnerve.com.au and My Health Story: Understanding the unique lived experience is critical to tailored care and relieving the global burden of disease.

The New Happy

There are many motivational accounts on social media, but one of My Health Story’s (MHS) faves is The New Happy. And that’s because of its brightness and colourful and uplifting graphics and messages. And it’s free. The New Happy also provides small bite-size doses, which are more manageable for people with chronic illnesses who might experience brain fog and other symptoms that make absorbing information tricky.  In addition to limiting the communications received on a day-to-day basis (actually, [...]

Own Your Health Data

Self-management is hard, chronic illness is overwhelming. Chronic illness robs you of your independence and control, leaving you feeling defeated and mentally and physically drained. Add to the endless appointments required; now, we also have to be considerate of healthcare systems under pressure. Guess who gets the short end of the stick? We pay with our lives. Perhaps healthcare systems were destined to burst their stitches because healthCARE was never built to care for people; it was made to keep people relying on it. That's not care. Can taking more ownership of our health make a difference?

Jaspen believe that data can attract the right medical team and access the appropriate care. And data communicated from the hands of its owner can empower people to feel in [...]

Bronwyn Thompson, PhD, MSc (Psych): Making the First Contact

2022-06-12T11:00:21+10:00October 18, 2021|Blog, Health Management, Research|

There's so much to love about Bronwyn's work. As a resource that is so heavily focused on the identity and experience of the person living with chronic pain, PainTrain My Health Summary believe the approaches explained by Bronwyn is key to successfully helping people manage their complex journeys. A patient's introduction to a new practitioner is a stressful time and one that requires clear communication and empathy. A PainTrain health summary works as an exceptional aid to this scenario. Empowering patients by listening and grasping their experiences as well as accepting them without judgment should be step one in the management of chronic pain. Thank you Bronnie!
