The Digital Health Festival (DHF) was mega. Australia’s largest digital health transformation event brought together the entire health eco-system (hospitals, primary & allied care, aged care, pharmacy, research and policy).

My Health Story (MHS) Founder Soula Mantalvanos and codirector Theo Mantalvanos enjoyed every minute of connecting, learning, aligning, and plugging MHS to a digital-health-famished audience.

Their standout sentiment aligned with each attendee’s shared mission to improve the quality of care.

MHS was in the best place to boast a unique approach to self-managed care for chronic conditions and to share its goal to position people as data stewards of their health information.

That vision couldn’t cement itself bolder or more novel as the two days unfolded.

Silos of health

Australia’s healthcare medical record situation has been unsuccessful in establishing itself. It’s having another go at reinventing itself as the My Health app.

Many healthcare systems are developing their own personal data handling and communication systems to enhance patient care coordination. This is all happening concurrently but independently, each road sprawling away from the other to a lonely destination.

The DHF audience heard a lot about silos.

The lack of coordinated planning and consideration for communication between groups striving to build the best silo is concerning, as it confuses patients and leaves them outside their care.

For MHS, the goal has always been patient-centred care, gathering the unique story from one source and sharing it with many sources (the whole care team) who can tailor care… faster.

Health information generated in government records (if possible to gather completely) would be very helpful as core information.

The MHS team recognise the importance of going beyond this and identifying patients and their lived experiences individually to tailor care and ease the burden of disease.
